Kathy Marks-Huber

Teaching Approach:
I have a strong background as a teacher, both in the classroom and one on one, and I individualize my piano teaching, planning for each student’s learning style and approach to music making. My Southampton studio offers individual lessons to children and adults of all ages and abilities. Students participate in group piano classes and recitals throughout the school year. I teach both Suzuki and traditional piano with an emphasis on developing a solid technique from the start, a knowledge of music theory and an ongoing mastery of musical expression and stylistic interpretation.  My goal is to instill a lifelong love of music in students and I am conscious of the balance between challenging students while making sure that there is always joy in the process of learning.

Background:
I have a BA in Music from the University of Pittsburgh and an MS in Elementary Education from SUNY Brockport and have done graduate work in piano/accompanying at Carnegie Mellon University and Suzuki training at the Hartt School. I currently am a K-8 music/chorus/piano teacher at Academy Hill School in Springfield, an accompanist and piano teacher at the Williston Northampton School, and Music Director/Organist at the Florence Congregational Church. I also direct the Southampton Community Chorus and Children’s Chorus and In Close Harmony.
