Teaching Approach:
My studio offers lessons to children (as young as 3) and adults. With children I am very mindful of a child’s physiological, psychological, musical development and personal preferences in my teaching choices. With adults, we make an audiation-led plan to help them reach their music making goals. I use Music Learning Theory as a basis for teaching students to play by ear, improvise by ear and read by ear. I am currently writing my own piano learning series, so I use that in my studio. My supplemental material includes classical repertoire, pop/rock/folk songs, and lively and accessible “teaching” pieces. Attention to the comprehension of meter and harmonic function informs solfège exercises, improvisation, sight reading and interpretation.  I offer several performance opportunities annually.
