I use a wide range of materials drawn from current piano methods as well as books that I have accumulated over almost three decades of teaching. My approach with beginners assumes an ability to read. Initially, students cover the basics of note-learning, theory and technique. At the late-beginner level I begin to introduce music from a variety of periods and styles. With more advanced students I incorporate elements of the Taubman technique. Students play in two recitals during the year: one informal and one at the end of the year which is open to the public.
I earned degrees in theory and piano from the University of Michigan and the Eastman School of Music. I perform annually for the Tuesday Morning Music Club in Springfield and play solo recitals, as well as chamber music, in the Amherst area.
